Ask about bags and the room separately

Leaving a suitcase at reception and checking into a room are two different requests. Confirm both with your hotel or host. Do not take an early bag drop as confirmation that your room will be available.

Before you travel, ask:

• Can you accept our bags before check-in, and from what time?
• Who will receive them, and where should we go?
• Is there a charge or a limit on the number of bags?
• When can we collect them, or can they be taken to the room?

Keep the reply with your booking details. If your arrival time changes, let the property know. A hotel’s answer applies to that property and stay; it is not a rule for every hotel on the lake.

Choose the option that fits your route

Your hotel is near where you arrive

If the property confirms it can receive your bags, going there first may be the simplest choice. Check the walk with luggage, not just the distance on a map. Ask about steps and the entrance you should use.

Your hotel is in another lake town

Sketch the whole trip before choosing a bag drop: arrival point, hotel, morning plans and where you finish the day. A detour to leave bags is less useful if you must repeat the journey to retrieve them.

You have an apartment with a timed handover

Hi, we are staying with you on [date]. We expect to arrive at [station or ferry pier] at [time], with [number] bags. Could you accept our luggage before check-in? Please let us know the earliest time, the handover point and any charge. If we arrange delivery instead, who can receive the bags?

Add the booking name so the property can find your reservation. For delivery, confirm the full address and recipient contact details. Keep medicine, travel documents and anything you need that day with you.

A bag drop or a delivery?

Choose a hotel bag drop when the hotel agrees and visiting it fits your day. You take the bags there and follow the property’s collection arrangements.

Consider delivery when you want to go somewhere else after arriving. Agree where the bags will be collected, where they will go and when the recipient is available.
