Zermatt without carrying skis everywhere: lockers, arrival and gear delivery

The last leg starts at Täsch

Zermatt Tourism says private cars stop at Täsch. The Täsch–Zermatt shuttle takes about 12 minutes and normally runs every 20 minutes during the day. As checked in September 2026, the railway lists a CHF 17.20 return fare; Swiss Travel Pass holders ride without a separate shuttle ticket. Confirm the timetable and fare for your date, especially after 21:55 when departures are less frequent.

Täsch station is attached to the parking terminal and has luggage trolleys; the railway says the trolleys can go on the shuttle. That solves the car-to-train change. It does not get a family’s skis, boots and suitcases to a hotel up the village streets.

At Zermatt station, ask your hotel about its electric shuttle, book an electric taxi, or use the free e-bus if the stop and your luggage make that practical. Zermatt Tourism says the e-bus has two village routes; the Matterhorn app shows live buses and stops. Zermatt is car-free for visitors, with local electric vehicles handling these trips. A parcel carrier may need a designated handover point, so confirm the exact receiving arrangement with your hotel before you send anything.

If you arrive before check-in or leave after check-out, Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn lists lockers at Zermatt station at CHF 5–13 by size, plus a staffed luggage deposit for pieces too large for a locker at CHF 12 per item per day during opening hours (prices checked September 2026). Ask whether your long ski bag is accepted before counting on that option.

Travelling with more than you can carry? Arrange the station-to-hotel leg before departure. A box or ski bag addressed only to “Zermatt” will not solve it.

Choose a locker for the lift you will use

Zermatt Tourism describes lockers at Sunnegga’s valley station, on the first floor of the ticket office. The range includes a rack for a pair of skis and ventilated lockers with room for boots and other gear. Separately, the Matterhorn Express valley station has lockers on its ground and first floors.

Pick Sunnegga if that is your usual morning lift, or the Matterhorn Express side if you ski from there. Ask about snowboard dimensions, helmet and boot space, current price, opening hours and access after the final lift. A locker helps during the stay; it does not carry the gear from Täsch or receive an international parcel.

For Swiss rail trips, check SBB luggage

SBB station-to-station carries packed skis, snowboards, boots and bags up to 23 kg per item between participating Swiss/Liechtenstein stations, with collection two days after hand-in. Its listed price checked in September 2026 is CHF 12 per item; a valid ticket for the travel route is required. Check both stations’ luggage counter hours.

SBB door-to-door lists Zermatt as served, at a published standard price of CHF 50 plus CHF 12 per item. It normally collects on day one and delivers on day three. Both ends need suitable Swiss/Liechtenstein addresses; SBB may designate a workable handover point where direct vehicle access is impossible. Check your property and exact route with SBB before booking.

Coming from Italy or moving on to Cervinia?

An Italy-to-Zermatt shipment is outside the cited SBB domestic products. Send us the pickup address, Zermatt property and receiver, first ski date, item contents and finished parcel measurements. We check Swiss border paperwork, carrier acceptance, boxing for bags, protective packing for skis, and how the Zermatt handover can actually happen.

If you plan to take the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing between Zermatt and Cervinia, read the lift operator’s luggage rules as well as your ticket. Its published conditions say ski bags longer than 171 cm cannot use the crossing’s luggage transport service and must be carried by the passenger. Measure the bag, not the bare ski, before assuming it can be sent separately across the cable route.

Choose carry, rent, locker or shipment

• First ski morning is tomorrow: carry the kit from Täsch/station or rent locally. Do not depend on an unconfirmed parcel arrival.
• Several ski days in one area: use the hotel ski room or a locker near your main lift.
• Swiss rail itinerary with two spare days: compare SBB luggage and your own hand-carrying effort.
• Italy → Zermatt or Zermatt → Italy: ask for a cross-border shipment quote after the hotel confirms who can receive it.

Six questions for your Zermatt hotel

1. What exact address should appear on the carrier label?
2. Will reception accept skis, a boot bag and suitcases before check-in?
3. Who signs or receives them, and on which dates and hours?
4. Is there a vehicle-accessible handover point if direct delivery is unavailable?
5. Can the hotel move the kit from its receiving point to your room or ski room?
6. Where should the carrier collect it after your final ski day?

Forward the answers with your route and parcel photos. That turns “send my skis to Zermatt” into a workable quote.
